We spent four magic years in Kenya. On the flight I remember we flew over the Sahara desert and looking down all you could see were rolling sand dunes. Then as we came in to land at Kenyatta airport I was disappointed because everything we could see still looked so brown.

Nairobi from Nairobi National Park Nairobi

We were flying over Nairobi National Park and it was during the dry season. Once the rains began then as you can see the whole landscape greens over. In the South Africa part of this site there are some good pictures showing the effects of drought.

One of the very best things about Kenya was the amzing holidays - click on the links to see.

SAFARIS

THE COAST.

....and we had an unforgettable trip up the mountain

MT KENYA.

However life in general was pretty amazing.....

At home in Kenya

Life is what you make it - but in Kenya it was nearly all good for us. There were inconveniences like having to pay for everything with cash and you had to get your cash from your own branch. Sometimes the shops ran out of things. We were there during the attempted coup and some friends spent the day lying down on the roadside under the eye of some possibly trigger happy soldiers. Another friend was on a bus that got caught in the crossfire between police and shifta bandits - nobody on the bus got hurt but these things are better as memories.

Sue, Colin & dogs, Peponi Rd

The first two years we lived in Peponi Rd, see pic on left, and we lived an expat lifestyle. Col played rugby and cricket. I rode and we both started diving - see the coast pictures. We also showed the dogs, went out for lots of meals and then Ben came along.

In the last two years we moved out onto a plot in Langata. We played golf at Karen Country Club. When we ate meals Col was called "Bwana" and I was called "Memsahib". It really felt 'Out of Africa' or would that be 'White Mischief'?

Langata

We had NO TELEVISION - so what did we do?
